Press Release:

"Rachel Jobe has created a two-part work for PS122’s hallway space – Per Annum and Correspondence

Per Annum refers to the cake on display and will be fully realized on Friday February 1 at the Sixth Street Community Center from 7-9 pm.  All are welcome to come to the Community Center (638 E. 6th St between B/C) and share in a slice of Grandmama’s Chocolate Fudge Birthday Cake – the traditional cake shared in my family at every birthday celebration.  Invitation cards are located on the shelf below the cake.

Correspondence is a work created in complement to Per Annum.  Visitors may take a letter and self-address it, and then drop it into the mailbox slot at the bottom of the unit.  This work will be fully realized each time someone opens and reads the letter received in the mail at a later date.  Correspondence is an exercise in exchange, and in the ritualistic experience of letter writing.  Both centered around the phenomenon of the birthday celebration, Per Annum and Correspondence seek to highlight individual traditions and family heritage via our personal memories."
